Tuesday, August 3, 2010

A staff member at a restaurant,Yoshinoya told her that she only deserved to have a half-filled cup of Coke, because she had ordered the drink without ice.

"I ordered four meals and two large cups of Coke without ice at the Yoshinoya outlet at Compass Point yesterday (July 24).

"I was shocked to see the cup was only half-filled.

2400 in YOG torch relay
Monday, August 2, 2010

2,400 Singaporeans from all of life will take part in the first-ever Youth Olympic torch relay to be held in Singapore on Friday.

Aged between 11 and 82, they come from a wide spectrum across Singapore - from students and soldiers to entertainers, social activists and business leaders. The group is also strongly represented by athletes young and old and participants from the coming Youth Olympic Games.

The torchbearers were picked after a three month-long, island-wide search for people who embody the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. An open call was made for public applications and more than 500 organisations nominated representatives to take part in the run in the Singapore leg of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame.

Also taking part in the relay are torchbearers from 39 different countries, reflecting Singapore's cosmopolitan city and the high level of international participation in the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Some of the more well-known torchbearers include Khoo Swee Chiow, pop star JJ Lin, international athletes Yelena Isinbayeva, and pole vault legend Sergey Bubka. Bubka is also the International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission Chairman for the first Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Friday's flame arrival ceremony will be held at the National University of Singapore . More than 750 performers are putting on a spectacular show with a float parade and choreographed mass formations to welcome the Youth Olympic Flame to Singapore after its journey to five cities across the globe.

Singaporeans are encouraged to cheer the torchbearers on as they pass their schools, offices and homes Members of the public can view the entire torch relay route and the list of torchbearers at the Singapore 2010 website www.singapore2010.sg/jyof, where they will also be able to track the movements of the Youth Olympic Flame 'live' via GPS.

Each morning, the Flame will be officially launched and at the end of the relay day, a school will play host to a community celebration, where the public is invited to witness the lighting of the cauldron and enjoy an evening of festivities.

For the grand finale of the flame journey, which will take place on Aug 13 at the Promontory @ Marina Bay, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew will light the cauldron and officially open Celebration @ Marina Bay.
